Floating Treatment Wetlands
Our mid-summer visit showed lots of good growth of plants on the rafts and lots of use by the local wildlife.
The Floating Treatment Wetlands project is in collaboration with the City of Grande Prairie. Using rafts to support wetland vegetation, water filtration and habitat is increased with the stormwater pond. Water quality is monitored at both the inlet and outlet of the treatment stormwater pond and also at a reference site. This is helping us to understand how the floating treatment wetlands are improving the water quality.
More importantly, this is a great education and awareness opportunity about how “weeds” can provide important functions – like cleaning water.
